Current Work and Results in North Carolina
Project One: Roanoke Rapids (NC) Graded School District
Roanoke Rapids Graded School District is a small city school district in eastern North Carolina. Two FLS educators began working with school leadership teams and the district leadership team in the fall of 2007. The sessions occurred 4-5 times per year over a 3-year period, with another 8 days during the 2010-11 school year. During Year One we met with leadership teams from all six of their schools and the district leadership team for two days each trip. We then spent one day in the field doing “Whole School Coaching” at Belmont Elementary School and Chaloner Middle School – usually intensive work with the leadership team and walkthrough’s with the administrators, checking on the quality of instruction. During years two and three we reduced the all leadership team session to one day per visit and added “Whole School Coaching” at Manning Elementary School and Roanoke Rapids High School.
The following data shows the improvement achieved in four years of work with FLS consultants:

Project Two: Rockingham County (NC) School District
Rockingham County is a larger, more diverse school district comprising a total of 24 schools in northern North Carolina. FLS began working in Rockingham County in January of 2008. For the first year of the contract, the work consisted of five four day sessions with two FLS consultants and combined large group sessions with leadership teams and intensive site work at some of the lower performing schools. For the 2009-10 school year we focused on assisting all schools in further developing their professional learning communities and improving instructional strategies and practices.
